The nature of the Reserve is notable for the variety and beauty of flora. There are 560 plant species in the reserve, including nearly 30 species of lower plants (mushrooms, mosses, and lichen) and 528 flowering plants, including 9 regional endemics and 5 species from the Red Data Book of Turkmenistan. In sea gulfs and coastal shallow water of the Caspian there are 41 species of algae-macrophytes and 5 species of flowering plants. These hydrophytes together with 29 species of zoobenthos (mollusks, Crustacea, worms and insects) are mass components, which form fodder base for valuable trade fish of the Caspian Sea, and for millions of migratory and wintering water fowls and land birds on the sea-bed fertile silts (they are brought here during the certain geological and historical periods with waters of the Amudarya River through ancient channel of Western Uzboi). Flora and fauna diversity of the shallow coastal areas of the reserve attracts to the Hazar reserve a big amount of migratory and wintering wetland and water fowls.
