Hazar Nature Reserve Surveys Nested Fauna in Northern Section of Turkmen Sector of Caspian SeaAshgabat, 24 June 2010 - The Hazar Nature Reserve conducted a survey of nested fauna from 14 to 18 June 2010 in the northern section of the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea to identify the species composition and number of nesting birds. As a result of survey, there have been identified nesting of 32 species of birds belonging to 10 different orders. Among these species there are birds the hunting for which should be strictly regulated.

Hazar project held a seminar on capacity building for specialists of protected areas of TurkmenistanAshgabat, 14 June 2010 – The UNDP project «Conservation and Sustainable Use of Globally Significant Biological Diversity in Hazar State Reserve on the Caspian Sea Coast», implemented jointly with the Global Environment Facility and the Ministry of Nature protection of Turkmenistan held a seminar on «International experience in developing training programs for specialists of protected areas of Turkmenistan». The seminar was held by Michael Appleton, International consultant of the project at the training center established within the project implementation at the National Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna.

Hazar project held a conference for the teachers of biology of Balkan provinceAshgabat, 3 June 2010. On 3rd of June in anticipation of the World Environment Day which is widely celebrated on 5th of June in many countries of the world a scientific and practical conference for the teachers of biology of Balkan province took place at the Museum of the Hazar reserve, Turkmenbashi city. The conference was organized with the help of the Global Environment Facility project “Conservation and Sustainable Use of Globally Significant Biological Diversity in Hazar Nature Reserve on the Caspian Sea Coast” implemented jointly with the UN Development Program and the Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan.

The main objective of the conference was to increase awareness about the current state of environment in the Turkmen part of the Caspian sea, it’s flora and fauna as well as involvement of schoolchildren via teachers to the activities of the Hazar reserve on protection of environment. 
The conference gathered around 40 participants, including the representatives of UNDP, Hazar project and specialists of Hazar reserve.

UNDP Presents Training Center for Environmental ManagementAshgabat, 14 May 2010 – On the day of environmental awareness, which is celebrated in Turkmenistan on 12 May, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Project "Conservation and Sustainable Use of Globally Significant Biological Diversity in the Hazar Nature Reserve on the Caspian Sea Coast" launched a Training Center for Environmental Management based in the National Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna of the Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan. The presentation ceremony was attended by the officials of the Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan, as well as students of higher education establishments.

Hazar Nature Reserve held monitoring of the Caspian sea levelAshgabat, 11 May 2010. In the period from 28 April to 6 of May Hazar reserve with the help of UNDP, GEF and the Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan “Conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity of global significance in Hazar nature reserve on the Caspian sea coast” conducted two expeditions on monitoring the level of the Caspian sea with the aim to collect data on the current state of the reserve’ landscape, changing due to regression of the sea level.

The objective necessity of such works were the unique feature of the Caspain sea, characterized by multi-year, seasonal (depending on season) and depending on weather sea level fluctuations leading to changes of it’s coast.

Hazar Nature Reserve Marks International Day of Mother-Earth by Environmental Action The March of ParksAshgabat, 29 April 2010 – The International Day of Mother-Earth, which is celebrated annually worldwide on 22 April in accordance with the General Assembly resolution, was marked in Turkmenistan by holding the environmental action "The March of Parks" in the period from 22 to 25 April 2010.

The environmental action started in the city of Turkmenbashi with the support of Hazar Nature Reserve as part of the UNDP/GEF project "Conservation and Sustainable Use of Globally Significant Biological Diversity in Hazar Nature Reserve on the Caspian Sea Coast” implemented jointly with the Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan. Further, the action continued in the settlements of Belek, Gyzylsuv, Garagel, Chekishlyar located in Balkan province of Turkmenistan closely located to Hazar Nature Reserve.

The Hazar project marks the International Bird Day Аshgabat, 5 April 2010. The Hazar State reserve held event devoted to the international bird day widely celebrated on 1st of April by ornithologists across the world. The event was held at the museum of the Hazar state reserve for schoolchildren of four schools of Turkmenbashi city with the help of the UN Development Program’ project «Соnservation and sustainable use of globally significant biological diversity in Hazar State Reserve on the Caspian Sea Coast» jointly implemented with Global Environmental Facility and the Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan.

The objective of the event was to increase awareness on environment protection among schoolchildren, broadening their mind and attracting their attention to the birds of the Caspian region.
